Drop Stitch Ming Sweater

Just in time for Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, I present the Drop Stitch Ming Sweater!

Pattern: My Own
Yarn: Artfibers Ming in Colors 11 (4 balls -- should have been 5) and 9 (2 balls)
Needles: Size 6 Addi Turbos
Time To Knit: March 31 - May 2

This was an enjoyable and easy knit!  I think I blocked it a little too aggressively, so the ribbing doesn't pull in like it's supposed to, but that will be fixed the next time I wash it.

I did end up running out of color #11 about 10 rows too early.  I just subbed in the blue, and it doesn't look too bad.  This is the conversation I had with David as I realized I wasn't going to make it:

Me: I think I'm going to run out of yarn.
David: (snort) Yeah, like that's possible.
Me: What I meant to say is that I'm going to run out of this particular color and type of yarn!

I really love the sheen that the silk content adds to this sweater.  And the sleeve drapes just the way I hoped it would!

I'm planning to wear this to  MDS&W, so look for me there!

I bought this yarn at Rhinebeck last fall.  The colors are so me... red, deep purple, and a little bit of orange.  As you can see, I had some issues with pooling, but I decided to embrace the pooling rather than fight it. I love these socks.  They're very quirky, but they make me happy every time I see them.

The pattern, written by the very talented Theresa, was great.  It was easy to understand, easy to memorize, and it just flew by.  It was also the first short-row heel explanation I was able to execute. I recommend you check it out!

Cablenet Socks

Another pair of socks!

I love this pattern.  It's very cleverly constructed, and it looks great.

 

I chose the cabled heel.  It wasn't too difficult, and it was a very cool design element.

I'll bet you didn't even see the rosy toe!

Waving Lace Socks

A pair of socks has been completed!

I really liked the pattern.  The lace repeat was easy to memorize, yet it was still interesting.  I also went by quickly!

Malabrigo Scarf

I have a new finished object!  Snow has arrived again in New Jersey, and it's nice timing to have a soft warm scarf.

Cable Pattern: "Asymmetrical Twists" from Vogue's Stitchtionary Vol. II One repeat wide and 14 repeats long with a seed stitch border. 
Yarn: Malabrigo worsted weight in Sauterne, almost 2 skeins
Needles: Size 9
Time to Knit: 1/15/07 - 2/15/07

This is a better representation of the color, but it doesn't show off the cables as nicely.  I love the warm, orangey yellow color.

It also fits!

This was a really lovely pattern to knit.  I really like the thumb gusset instead of the normal fair-isle style thumb.  The line of purl stitches made some people praise my finishing when really it was quite easy!

I spent a lot of time knitting these while on planes.   I really suggest it!  You'll get lots of attention from people of all generations who are impressed with your work.  And the fold-down tray on the airplane is a handy place to keep your chart.

*I've been an avid blog reader for several months now.  There are a few projects that I made before I started blogging that were either designed by another blogger or made with yarn dyed by one.  I want to show these off and give credit to some great people!

Japanese Feather Socks

Pattern: Japanese Feather Lace Socks
Yarn: Sundara Socks Yarn in Lenten Rose, 1 skein
Needles: Susan Bates DPNS, size 1
Time to Knit: 1/7/2007 - 2/2/2007
Modifications: I made the foot a little bit smaller for better fit.  I also did a traditional eye-of-partridge heel instead of the short-row heel.

This was an easily memorized pattern that worked well with socks.  Despite my mods, I think the socks are still a little bit too big.  They are certainly still wearable. The yarn came from Sundara's Petals Collection sock club.  It was my first installment (I joined the mid-year group) and the yarn is beautiful and a pleasure to work with.
