I've been a very busy person lately, but a lazy blogger. Sorry about that! This past week was my spring break, and I spent so much of it checking things off a big to-do list. Maybe I should have put blogging on my list? Anyway, to make up for it, I'm promising you a parade of knitting and sewing FOs, starting with this vest.
Pattern: My own, based on my measurements with no ease
Yarn: Araucania Toconao in 502, 2 skeins; Berroco Inca Gold in Rojo, 2 skeins; Karabella Aurora 8 in 38, 1 skein; Patons Classis Wool in Bright Red, a tiny bit
Needles: US 7 circulars
TIme to Knit: February 22 - March 18
As I mentioned in a previous post, I striped several different shades of red together to make this vest. This allowed me to use up my leftovers and also get a really rich shade of red. This did make my gauge vary slightly between rows, but the fabric felt pretty consistent overall. I used a 1x1 twisted ribbing for the bottom 6 inches of the vest, and as edging on the neck and sleeves.
A few technical details so I can remember them: I started the V a few inches before I divided the vest for the armholes. I decreased one stitch on each side every 3 rows. For the armholes I bound off an inch at each side twice, and then 12 times every other row for the front and 4 times for the back.
I'm pretty happy with how this vest came out, although next time I'd follow Elinor's advice and have negative ease around the bust. I have a little extra fabric under my arms that I don't really need!
I've been wanting a simple red vest for a while now, and I'm glad that I could improvise something that works so well. Now that I know what works for me, I'll be able to adjust or create some lovely vests to wear next fall!
This is my March entry for NaKniSweMoDo (Rav link), which makes me three for three. (Not yet blogged is David's sweater, which was my February entry. We're taking pictures of that sweater this weekend!)
Came out great, and a lovely color! It looks perfect with that little white blouse and jeans!
