I haven't posted in the last few days because I wanted my wedding to still be the most recent thing that happened. Unfortunately, life seems to be moving on despite that wish. Since I have to go back to work on Monday, I had better start getting used to the reality of things. Besides, I've been knitting like crazy the past few weeks and I haven't taken the time to post, so there's some catching up to do!
But first, a few more pictures.
This is the garter that Jessica so kindly knit for me. It was the "something blue" in my attire, and I knew that Jessica was the go-to person for that color ;) She did a beautiful job with it, despite the "interesting" pattern she had to work with.
The pattern suggested using some knitting elastic to keep it up, but Jessica and I couldn't get that to work. Once I got home, I just threaded some 3/8" elastic behind the ribbon, and it worked beautifully.
And then, there's Jody's shawl. She asked me if she could knit one for me, and added "don't hesitate, just say yes". So I did! And I'm so glad.
It is gorgeous, of course. It has a golden sheen to it, and I thought it complemented the dress very well. I love that Jody designed the shawl as a metaphor for a marriage. How perfect! You can read Jody's posts about it here and here.
I did keep a big secret from you, but only for a few weeks! One of our relatives is quite ill, and we're worried that they might not be able to attend our April wedding. So we decided about four weeks ago to have a small ceremony. It was a huge mental adjustment and quite stressful at first (Remember the week with the fire alarm and the broken car? Yeah, I was also planning this wedding), but our family was so helpful and wonderful, and I could not think of a more perfect way for everything to work out.

I'm glad eerything went off without a hitch in the end - the shawl is gorgeous - what a generous friend! Congrats again!

I think this is a lovely honor, to have a small wedding in advance of the big she-bang to ensure a sick person's attendance. I so often see brides who get wrapped up in the "it's MY day" philosophy, when the most beautiful, meaningful weddings are the ones where it is about EVERYONE embracing the couple. By having an early, intimate ceremony, you've honored everyone who cares about you and David, by acknowledging that they genuinely care about and share in your happiness.

Seems like such a beautiful, love-filled day to be surrounded by family and wrapped in the hand knits of dear friends. Truly magical. Congrats again and many warm wishes for happiness and health to you, David and both your familes.

Good luck with re-entry. I know it's going to be tough after everything, but we'll get together and do some knitting to ease you in. :)

You look just beautiful & the shawl & garter are awesome. Re-entry may be hard now, but you get to do the whole wedding thing all over again in April. Fun!

I think you received some really wonderful wedding gifts from your knitter friends! But I think that your "first" wedding day will always really special. You are a lovely bride!

What a lovely thing you did - making sure you could share the celebration with your relative. And so nice that your ceremony incorporated the work of your knitting friends!
