I was a little worried about leaving our little kitten alone (with Sasha) for Thanksgiving. She misses us when we just go off to work, and 4 days is a much longer time. It turns out she has learned a very effective way of expressing her displeasure.
My first inkling that something was wrong was when I got inside. There were strands of yarn in the hallway. They continued upstairs.
And they terminated in the living room. The cats, unconcerned, continued to play while I snapped some pictures.
There was also a lone battered skein of Koigu in the kitchen. Fortunately, all six skeins were just tangled, and I managed to rewind all of them. Now I know that when I leave the cats, the stash had better be secure.
SIgh. At least it was an easy blog post.

OMG! I got a sinking feeling just looking at that first photo. I guess they didn't do too much damage and you could have come home to worse, but OYE!! Kitties!! ;)

OMG! My dogs would never, but when my mom's dog visits, everthing must be put away. No one ever says 'No' to him. At least everything was salvagable. And they are so cute and innocent looking...

Cats love yarn - I know mine want to sneak in my stash when I am not looking. Just like children looking so innocent as you got some pictures. Priceless.

Oh no! I'm glad it was all salvageable. I came home to a scene like that a couple of years ago, but it turned out that my cat (the one who eats everything, though we hadn't quite figured that out yet because he was still a kitten) had eaten significant portions of each skein. Yikes. But they're just so precious, it's hard to stay mad at them.

Those look like happy cats! And wow, sounds like a lot of damage that they did. :-) Mine do that whenever they can possibly get their paws on some yarn, silly creatures!

gahhhhH! The little weasels!!!!
hahahha good thing no yarn was hurt!

Such a sweet, innocent little kitty!

This sounds like my cat. I woke up the other morning to strange noises in the kitchen. When I went to investigate, I found Moustache (the cat) in a yarn coma with five balls of yarn strewn all over the house. Now I know I have to keep my yarn in a sealed Rubbermaid tub.
Lesson learned.

Oh my goodness! They are still so cute, even though they were naughty.
Posted by: Oiyi | November 25, 2007 at 09:43 PM
OMG naughty kitties indeed. I'm glad you were able to get the knots out and rewind them. At least they are salvaged.
(Note to self: Naughty English Bulldogs better not do that. Thank goodness they are short and spend more time snoring while I'm gone. LOL).

One of my dogs used to do that every single time I left him in a room with yarn. We weren't on speaking terms for awhile.
Posted by: Stella | November 26, 2007 at 01:47 AM
wow! looks like they like pink! and sasha's just giving you a look that says, "um, what did you expect? you're the one who left us unsupervised with yarn for 4 days. it's not our fault."
Posted by: Sara | November 26, 2007 at 10:25 AM
Oh lordy! I'm glad you could repair the mess. Maybe you should buy a log of Red Heart for the kitties to play with when you're away overnight. My old cats used to express their displeasure by pooping on the sofa.
Posted by: Kim | November 26, 2007 at 11:11 AM
Oh no. The look on their faces is hysterical, though. They're like, "See what you made us do?!"
Posted by: Jean | November 26, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Gosh.... and they look so innocent.....
Posted by: Kathleen | November 26, 2007 at 12:26 PM
Always the last to the party, but I swear those cats are disavowing any knowledge of what happened to the yarn and are making up a rather convoluted story that involves a break-in by a dog, some raccoons and an elephant.
It could be worse. I've a friend whose dog ate through a nearly completed shawl.

That's hilarious! Glad it was all salvageable. And really, it could be worse. The last time I displeased a household cat, she dragged my favorite dress into the litterbox and, er, relieved herself all over it.

OMG! And yet, you cannot help but smile! They look so sweet and their little faces so innocent!
Posted by: Leah | November 26, 2007 at 01:56 PM
OMGosh! I can't believe you were able to rewind them all!
Posted by: tiennie | November 26, 2007 at 09:58 PM
Oh no! I can't believe that you were able to save that. Usually Nemo will wrap it around the support under our bed which means I need to cut it to get it out. Stitch likes to eat the yarn so no knitting is ever left out here.

As far as I know, dogs do not have the same affinity for yarn that cats do! What a welcome!
Posted by: nova | November 27, 2007 at 12:44 AM
bad kitty!!!!! at least it was all recovered!!! (and she has good taste - she went for the koigu!)
Posted by: stacey | November 27, 2007 at 08:50 AM
it's so hard to be mad at them when they're so darn cute!
my kitty got tangled up in my sock-in-progress (mid-heel, two circs) and managed to run upstairs and back, dragging the yarn all around, before finally shedding the needles in the dining room. after i stopped laughing, i was glad to find out he hadn't stabbed himself.

Kitties will be kitties! As my husband tells me when I have to say "no!", it isn't their fault that your hobby involves kitty toys!
Posted by: Tanya | November 27, 2007 at 04:28 PM
Priceless! ;-)
Posted by: Beth S. | November 27, 2007 at 04:37 PM
Oh my! They were busy! I'm glad you were able to recover all the yarn.
Posted by: Brenda | November 28, 2007 at 08:40 PM
Heh, I love that first photo! Good thing that they just tangled it - one of my cats will nibble through my yarn every time. I can't leave any string out, anywhere, because the cats are relentless.
