This was one of those weekends where a lot of things went wrong, knitting- wise. And yet, it wasn't a bad weekend. I'm not sure how that works, but I'm not questioning it too much.
Bad Thing: I attended an event this weekend which I only expected to last a couple of hours. It actually lasted seven!
Silver Lining: At least I could knit, and I was sitting outside in the sunshine, so it really wasn't too bad. If I had known, I would have brought the projects that were on my to-knit list instead of my "emergency" knitting projects. But hey, I made progress on something.
Bad Thing: I finished my Bulky Cabled Cardigan, and it makes me look 30 lbs heavier when I wear it. Why do I try to knit with chunky yarn? I considered posting a photo to illustrate this, but I could not bring myself to do it.
Silver Lining: I got to check my project off on Ravelry? And mark the yarn as "all used up"? I'm thinking about using my sewing machine to take in the sides and arms some, and then cut away the excess. Unless there's someone who really needs a sweater that makes them look shorter and rounder? Anyone?
Bad Thing: I had to frog my indulgence sock back to the toe because it didn't fit and I was too stubborn to admit it until after I turned the heel.
Silver Lining: I had wanted to start the patterning earlier on the toe, and now I have the chance to do that.
I also cast on for two new projects last night. They seem to be going well, so things are looking up. I hope that your weekend knitting met with more success!
Oh, I SO know what you mean. That always seems to happen to me too. I hope for the best and end up looking like a short, marshmallow. Glad you were able to get in some knitting this weekend.

That's been my hesitation with the bulky cabled cardigan as well... I'll definitely be interested to hear about your taking-in endeavor, if you do go that route.
Glad you could find all the silver linings!

This makes me laugh. And, no thanks.

Meh. You win some, you lose some, right?

I get what you mean. I actually lucked out this weekend with the Drops Swing jacket which was chunky yarn but I wouldn't say bulky. I made this mistake once before and was really scared to try it. It worked I don't *feel* fatter in it right now. LOL. But I know what you mean. Chunky/bulky yarn can scare me to death. Glad you can look at the positve though!

OH, so sorry about the Bulky Cabled Cardi....is it still a comfy one for around the house? B/c those are always useful too.
Yup, I've done that denial with socks before...which is why my Vinnland is still stalled.

Sometimes Done Is Good and that's all you need. Give the offending bulky knit away!

It so hit and miss with me when I knit sweaters for myself. I think that's why it's taken me awhile to get up the nerve to start another one.

hmm - a mixed bag of results, huh? At least there is a silver lining in each! Not sure about the bulky yarn. I have tried 2 sweaters from bulky. Frogged both and traded the yarn....

That's such a bummer about the sweater! It seemed like it was coming along so well. :( At least you are able to find the good in all these things. That in itself is a silver lining! :)

I am impressed by and hope to emulate your wonderful attitude!

I know the feeling well. A few too many times I've gotten a little caught up in the speed and joy that is chunky yarn, only to have the results make me look like a linebacker! You should've seen the bulky sweater with the cables down the sleeves, oh it wasn't pretty!
I agree with Amy, it's wonderful to have such a good attitude.

I'll share some of my mixed results:
Bad: Hubby had to spend lots of time working in the Lab this weekend
Silver Lining: He indulged me with a trip to my fave LYS so I could get some new needles and knit and hang out with him while he was working in the lab
Bad: New needles were necessary because i had to frog the had I was 3/4 done with because the needles were too big, and the hat would have only fit a giant.
Silver Lining: I got new neeles. Addis. And hubby went to an LYS with me and even kinda enjoyed it.

Hmm, I could use a little short & round because I'm way too tall & skinny (not really). Sorry to hear about the bulky sweater. If you decide to steek it to make it less bulky, I'd be very interested to read about that. I have a bulky sweater that needs similar treatment. Sometimes we need the knitting mishaps to truly appreciate our stellar projects.

Yay for checking stuff off the list. But when will knitwear designers will learn that bulky + cables just = bulky cables? ;)

Glad you got some emergency knitting done anyways, right? I can't wait to hear more about the two new projects you cast on, I like the element of suspense:)

I've avoided that pattern (and raglan sleeves in general) for that very reason. I feel for you! Having said that, I have an enormous number of skeins of Lambs Pride Bulky in Raspberry. I think I'll have to choose something like a jacket--not fitted.
Glad your knitting world is looking up!
