I got the new Cat Bohrdi book, New Pathways for Sock Knitters, in the mail yesterday. I love it! I haven't been this happy with a new book in a while. Cat has expanded the basic sock architecture of either heel flap or short-row/afterthought into eight new ones. It's so stimulating to consider all of these new possibilities. Her explanations are simple and nicely illustrated, and she has helpful pictures for both DPNs and circular needles.
I'd recently been thinking about starting a new single sock, and this book did me in. Once pattern in particular, Ocean Toes, I found to be stunning, and I thought that my new Yarn Pirate Booty Club yarn would be a perfect fit.
Since the Yarn Pirate yarn is thinner than the called-for yarn, I went down a needle size, but it still seems to be fitting my foot. So far I've learned a new cast on and a new cuff style, and this is before getting to the new architecture! Oh, and the yarn? Yum! I'm so glad I'm in this club!
Yesterday was my 6-month blogiversary, and this is my 100th post. I can't think of a nicer way to celebrate than with a lot of sweater knitting and an exciting new project. I've also got 3 FOs to report in the next few posts! See you soon.

that sock looks great! i'm glad you're enjoying the book. happy 6-month blogiversary :)

The Yarn Pirate is wonderful - and it is so satisfying to get a new book with lots of new and useful (useful being the operative word) information. Now I may have to get it too - I am a book ho - can't help myself.

I had heard about this book before it was published, and now I see I must have it. Pretty colors in the yarn too!
Congrats on your 100th post! Both you and Brigitte made it to 100 this weekend. I thought I must be getting close to 100--today was 111. I should pay more attention to my stats.

Happy six month blogiversary! I guess we started blogging right around the same time. You, however, are out-posting me approx two-to-one. Which is great! You inspire me to post more regularly. I've been looking forward to Ms. Bordhi's new book and didn't realize it's out yet. Can't wait to see the way these socks shape up. The yarn is lovely.

Happy 6 month blogiversary! I must get that book! Ocean Toes looks great. Based just on the picture it reminds me a bit of Jaywalker. Looking forward to photos of the 3 FOs!

That blue sock pictured in the book is making my head hurt. I can't figure out how she did it. ;-) The thick line along the edge of the sole makes me think of EZ's refootable moccasin sock, but it's clear that there's more to it than that (is that a *vertical* garter-stitch heel gusset I see?... The mind boggles!)
Anyway, cool! :-) I'll keep my eye out for that book.

Thank goodness the yarn diet makes no mention of knitting books, 'cause I think I may have to run out and buy that one. I'd been so hoping it was as good as it sounded. And happy half-blogiversary!
