We brought home a really cute ball of fluff today!
She's only eight or nine weeks old (we're not certain, she's a rescued cat). She's gorgeous and really likes people. She's been climbing all over us ever since she figured out how to get up on the couch.
We haven't come up with a name for her yet. Do you have any suggestions? We're leaning towards unusual people names instead of something like Floofy or Scamp.
This leads me to one knitting-related musing: Which is bigger? Kitten or sidewinder-in-progress?

How adorable!!! It's so exciting bringing home a new pet. I'm so happy for you.

congrats on your cute little kitty cat! Here is a name suggestion: Loretta. I've tried to get quite a few people to name their pets Loretta. So far no takers. I keep hoping.

SO CUTE.
I'm all for unusual people names in pets. I'm a big fan of Mathilda, myself.

I've always been a fan of Mona, myself. But honestly, she looks more like a Lexi.

Awhhhhh! Makes me want another knitten!
Maybe you should go to one of the Harry Potter name generators. Those come up with really interesting names!

OMG she's freekin' adorable! After that last picture, I'd name her socksey or something fun like that. :) Enjoy her!

What a cutie! Not that I'm recommending this name, but growing up we had a tortoiseshell cat my dad named Astoria. Dad did his PhD dissertation on Washington Irving and has named all our cats with names from Irving's writings: Astoria (a book on the fur trade), Rip (as in van Winkle) and Katrina (von Tassel from Headless Horseman). What does your orange cat think but your kitten?

AWWWW! What a cutie! Chris says to name her Alouicious but I can't in good consience second that motion.
Heather said Rowan and I like that for the knitting theme. Other options in that vein:
Claudia (Handpainted)
Tilli (Tomas)
Lorna ('s Laces)
Colinette
Nashua
Misti (Alpaca)
Lana (Grossa)
Karabella
Katia

PS - I think kitten edges out sidewinder by a nose.

Awww! You're not going to name her Wollmeise?
Posted by: kelp! | July 28, 2007 at 01:08 PM
Ah, there's nothing better than a kitten!
Posted by: Emma | July 28, 2007 at 05:58 PM
So adorable!!! Of the names mentioned so far, I like Penelope and Lexi. Of course, if you wanted to be punny, you could go with Claudette, but spell it "Clawdette" ;-) Just kidding...I love me some good puns! I do like Astoria as well...I'll see what else I can think of...

Oh sweet new kitty, I remember when my two 13 year old toms were babies. I kind of like Claudia, Claud for short, Joey or Gertie. I like the suggestion of Wollmeise, yikes! But a few of your favorite things...

Awwwww!!! ood on you to rescue the baby!
My humble suggestions are Sophia and Cleo

Aww, I love torties. So adorable. I second the person who suggested Penelope above. She could be Penny, for short.
Enjoy the new wee one!
Posted by: Lauren | July 29, 2007 at 12:44 PM
Oh, ADORABLE. I thought Agatha when I saw her for some reason--maybe because her little tortie fur looks like a agate?
Posted by: Ashley | July 29, 2007 at 03:13 PM
How about Addi?
Posted by: Erica | July 29, 2007 at 05:31 PM
She's adorable!! How about Lola?
Posted by: monica | July 29, 2007 at 06:04 PM
Congrats! She is so cute. She looks so tiny and precious.

What an adorable kitten! They're so sweet and cute when they're at that stage (except when they're tiny terrors, of course, but they're still cute then, too!)

Re: Lola...a friend of mine just got a new puppy named lola...i guess it's a good name :-)
Posted by: Sara | July 30, 2007 at 10:27 AM
awwwwww KITTEN! :-) :-) :-)
I'm sure the right name will come to you eventually. My Lola came from the shelter with that name, and we tried to re-name her... but the original name stuck, so I think it was meant to be. ;-)

I thought of another....Josie as in the old cartoon: Josie and the Pusstcats :)
Posted by: Carol | July 30, 2007 at 11:28 AM
AWWW she is adorable! How about
Ginny
Mrs. Norris
Hermione
Nympadora
Luna
Minerva
Guess where my mind is at...

Hi Kristy,
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I love your adorable new kitten! Her ears look incredibly fluffy ;-) Someone suggested a yarn-inspired name: Claudia (handpainted); I like that one b/c she's a tortoiseshell (you must have seen my tortie, Fran, on my blog, yes?) and their fur looks like it's been handpainted. In any event there is nothing cuter than a new kitten and she looks absolutely precious.

What a cute little ball of fluffy kitty!

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I had no idea that the NY Times article included my google map.

I met a book person with a dog named Copyright last week. My friend Al has a cat named Mary Walnut (referred to by first and las name as always) and a kitten named Henry. For some reason, Hazel seems like a good cat name. I also like Penelope and Caliope for a cat...and I am not even a cat person, so I have no idea where all this inspiration is coming from. Maybe your new ball of fluff is just that cute.
Posted by: nova | July 30, 2007 at 11:07 PM
what a sweet mog. I love less common names. I managed to convince my brother in law to call his first born Doris, had he been a girl. I also love Hortense, French for Hydrangea. Yedda, which is old English for something or other. Gerhild, if your tastes run to the Germanic. So many good names, and not enough people or pets to use them on. That said, I think Daisy Cat looks like it could suit. Either way, have fun naming the new recruit into the family.

awwwwww!!!!!! I love little kitties! How about "puppy" for name? ;) Hubby had a kitten that looked a lot like that when he was a kid, and he had wanted a puppy instead, so he named it puppy....
