I finished the first Sidewinder Sock on Friday night. It was such a fun and fast knit!
It was hard to understand how the sock was working at first, but I just trusted the pattern and kept knitting. By the end of Day 2, I could see where it was going. This was also a fast knit because I didn't have to switch needles so often. All that time (at least twice per round, depending on your style) really adds up.
Pattern: Sidewinder by NonaKnits
Yarn: Wollmeise Sockenwolle in Amazonas
Needles: Addi Turbos size 2
Time to Knit: June 9 - 16
Modifications: None
I knit the pattern as written because I didn't feel like I knew enough to do otherwise! Now that I've knit it once, there are a few tweaks I'm planning for my next pair. Overall, the sock fit me well in my chosen size, but it was still tight at the very top of my instep. I think I just have big heels. Next time I'll make the heel a little larger to compensate.
Speaking of heels, the heel and toe were easy to understand and execute, but I had a little bit of difficulty making them look good. The increase side is a little tight and it actually puckers slightly, while the decreased side of the heel has gaps.
I think that next time around I'll put two stitches in between these increases/decreases, and that should take care of this problem.
This was such a fun pattern, and it really made this variegated colorway interesting! I found it funny that it still ended up pooling, but I don't mind it at all.
This brings me up to single sock 10 in my self-imposed craze. It was well worth it! I know I showed a lot of pictures already, but here's a few more.

So cool! And such pretty yarn. A perfect match!

Very cool! I love how the colors line up in that direction.

Very different! I've scanned the pattern and it seems like the entire piece is grafted together?!
I kinda um...like grafting. :p

Great sock! I love those colors too. Now I've just got to make them too.

Great sock! You chose the perfect yarn for it; the vibrant colors and pooling show off the cool construction.

Ooh, I actually like the pooling in this! I totally see what you're saying about the decreases pulling - my ssk-k2togs always gape like that. I'll probably steal your idea of putting a stitch in the middle if I make one of these.

I love them! I've always steered clear of sideways socks, but now that I've seen yours, I'm reconsidering. I love how the colors worked out, too.

what a neat sock!!!! the pooling looks different - I guess it goes lenghtwise vs around like it normally would

That is just so interesting! I'm really going to have to add this to the list of patterns I want to try. Very cool!

Great sock! Though I have to admit I find that pattern anything but intuitive! It's a little rule-breaker, like me! ;)

This sock pattern is totally bizarre and fantastic. I love it! Good luck with #2.

It came out so well! The yarn is a wonderful match for the pattern. The pooling looks completely intentional and very cool. It really shows the uniqueness of the pattern to great effect. Congrats on #10!
