I made a few purchases this weekend. My friend C needed to get to some crafty stores, so we stopped by the Wooly Lamb and Pennington Quilt works (which is right next door). I had never been to the Wooly Lamb before, so it was interesting to actually visit the store. They had a big store with a lot of yarn, but strangely I wasn't drawn to much of it. I'm not sure why. It could be that there wasn't much of any hand-dyed sock yarn, and that's what usually gets me.
I was able to pick up some older Vogue and Interweave Knits magazines at half price.
It was nice to visit Pennington Quilt Works again. I hadn't been there in awhile. I was specifically looking for some backing fabric for a small quilt I've been working on. This fabric seemed to fit the bill.
I also picked up some Amy Butler fabrics. They're so fun!
But my biggest acquisition this weekend was a new camera! I had been thinking about getting one for awhile. I've started to keep my camera with me all the time, and my old one was a little bit too hefty to fit comfortably in my purse. It also used 4 AA batteries, and I was going through batteries like candy since I started blogging.
This actually a step up from what I was planning to buy. When I got to the store, this camera was on sale for the same price as the one I was planning to get! It only weighs 6 oz. (old camera was 11 oz.), and it has an optical image stabilizer, so lower light pictures will be easier to take!

Yay, new stuff!

Hi Kristy!
Half price knitting magazines? Did they have a good selection? I'd stop in for that. My one and only experience there, when they first opened, was not exactly warm and fuzzy. I was the only customer walking around the store. Two people, presumably at least one of whom worked there, sat at the table in the back corner, knitting and chatting. I sidled over there to nose around and see what they were knitting, said hello, and got a muttered hello from the gals and that was it. It didn't appear to be a knitting class, just two women knitting. No one asked if I needed help. Nuttin'. I wouldn't mind trying it again though. Since the ys at Princeton Shopping Center closed, I've been going to Pins & Needles exclusively, where I always feel welcome.

Dude - optical image stabilizers? That's gotta be better than my none-too-reliable "try really really hard not to breathe or twitch during close-ups" method. Would love to hear what you think of it (and of course, looking forward to the pix)!

Nice finds and a nice camera! The wooly lamb is an interesting store, but definitely not my favorite. They usually have a good selection of needles and magazine though, as you found out.

I just got back from OR and CA yesterday where I visited about 5 or 6 knitting stores. I was generally disappointed with all of them for either lack of things interesting to me (like handdyed sock yarn or a wide selection of regular sock yarn) or lack of warmth and customer service. The one store that I went into in Portland, Close Knit, was the nicest and I would have loved to have looked around more but it was the one time I didn't have time. I know a store can't be everything to everyone but it certainly made me thankful for my LYS!!!

Ohh, great finds AND a new camera! I could definitely use some sort of image stabilization other than my elbows on knee technique. ;)
P.S. - That backing fabric is fantastic!
