I usually have about 4 works in progress. My sister accuses me of having knitting ADD, but I like to have variety in my projects. Besides, 4 WIPs does not seem like too many in comparison to others!
First up, the Malabrigo scarf. I found this yarn while I was visiting my family at Thanksgiving, and although I had heard of Malabrigo, I had never seen it in person. The yellow yarn (colorway: Saturn) called out to me even though I usually don't like yellow. I picked the asymmetrical cable pattern from Vogue's Stichtionary Vol. II and got started. It's a simple one-repeat version with a seed stitch border. I'm at about 46" right now, and I'd like to have it be about 60". I have 3 repeats to go!
The Malabrigo yarn looks great in cables. They really pop out from the background. The yarn is so soft, and it's a real pleasure to knit with!
Next up is a Cablenet sock from Knitty. I just started knitting socks last fall, and I've been trying to do different techniques with each pair.
This is my first cabled sock, and it is looking pretty good, even though it's taking longer to make than some of my previous socks. The pattern itself is quite clever and does not require a cable needle. I'm using Socks that Rock (colorway: Sun Stone) and I of course love the yarn! It's got a little bit of color variation to make it interesting, but it reads solid enough to show off the cables beautifully.
These two projects are my futon knitting. The kind that gets done while I'm watching TV, reading on my laptop, etc. Unfortunately, you might notice that these two projects are quite similar. They're both cabled and use charts that are too big for me to memorize. They also happen to be similar colors -- although it's hard to complain about such sunny hues! I'm looking forward to finishing my scarf so I can wear it, and so I can get some variety in my futon knitting.
Next Post: Knitting that Travels (aka Easy Knitting)
Malabrigo is wonderful, isn't it? I have a scarf-in-progress from last year with it. I really should finish it up...
As for cablenet -- I had forgotten about it! What a great pattern. Your progress looks great, even though you said you felt you were going slowly. They'll be really beautiful when they're done.
